Valerian is a flowering plant and the scientific name of it, is Valeriana officinalis. This name came from the Latin word valere which meaning “health or strength”. Its main uses are for sedative and hypnotic reasons, while being used in parallel as an anticonvulsant and sedative. Valerian is effective in almost all cases of nervous disorders such as anxiety, hypertension, headaches, migraines and anxiety. Its effect on the central nervous system is based on many components, most notably GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid).
