Description

The cumin is a flowering plant and belongs to the family (Apiaceae), the scientific name of it is cuminum cyminum. Cumin comes from the Mediterranean region, North Africa and West Asia and is cultivated as a spice since antiquity. Romans and Greeks used the cumin in their kitchen and Egyptians put cumin in the tombs of Pharaohs and used it as a medicine for the treatment of pulmonary diseases. The seeds of this plant have a rich flavor and are the part of the plant used as a spice. The dried seeds are thin, oblong, and oval, with strong and heavy aroma and are also used for therapeutic purposes. There are several different types of cumin. More important, except white, are green and black. The black cumin is grown in Pakistan, Turkey and Iran and has a sweet taste and smaller fruit.
